Chapter I

Four kinds
of entry.

The log is opinionated. Every entry is one of four things — so future you can read the shape of the work, not just its noise.

  1. 01

    Accomplishments

    Wins. Shipped work. Closed loops.

  2. 02

    Learnings

What you studied or figured out.

  3. 03

    Improvements

    Where you sharpened.

  4. 04

    Worked on

    Ongoing threads of progress.

Chapter II — A page from the log

Small entries,
compounding
progress.

Two lines a day is enough. Look back in a month and see what you actually did — not what you meant to do.

  • Accomplishment

Shipped the async job runner behind a feature flag. Cut p95 checkout latency from 840ms to 210ms.

  • Learning

Studied Postgres LISTEN/NOTIFY — cleaner than polling for what we needed, but doesn't survive reconnects.

  • Improvement

Getting faster at reading unfamiliar codebases. Started at the tests, not the entrypoint.

  • Worked on

Draft RFC for splitting the monolith's billing module. Two more sections to go.
